When the New Year holidays end in 2020

The so-called "Christmas holidays" is for many the most favorite time to travel, which means that you need to find out as early as possible when the New Year holidays begin and end in 2020, so that you can timely purchase tickets and not miss the end of the weekend and the first working day.

Long weekend in January

Traditionally, the Government gives Russians long January weekends and the year 2020 will not be an exception - we will rest from January 1 to 8 (inclusive).

At the "winter holidays" Russians are waiting for two large-scale celebrations:

  • New Year - 01.01.20;
  • Nativity - 07.01.20.

Thus, the last working day of the outgoing 2019 will be December 31 (Tuesday) and it will be an hour shorter than usual weekdays. This norm is spelled out in the law and binding on enterprises of all forms of ownership.

The first working day of 2020 will be January 9 (Thursday).

Adaptation to workdays will be facilitated by the fact that the first working week will be as short as possible - only two working days (January 9 and 10), after which 2 more legal holidays will follow.

Possible transfers

Every year, with the aim of optimizing working time and creating optimal rest periods for Russians, the Government approves the decree "on the transfer of holidays." Typically, the document is accepted in the second half of autumn (late October or early November).

The draft resolution, which is proposed by the Ministry of Labor, involves the transfer of two holidays in January to May holidays. We are talking about the weekend, which are formed during the lining of the New Year holidays on Saturday and Sunday (January 4 - 5).

According to the law, these days can be moved to the next workers (January 9 and 10, respectively), which would automatically spill vacations until the 12th day inclusive. But, such a long vacation has two negative sides:

  • Economic. Most enterprises will suffer serious losses with such a long period of downtime.
  • Psychological. Too long vacation entails the same long adaptation period, during which the labor efficiency of employees is reduced.

Do not neglect the health of the nation, scientists and politicians say, because most people spend holidays at the table, overeating and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, which negatively affects health, causing an exacerbation of various chronic diseases.

Thus, having justified its decision, the country's leadership suggests that citizens spend the extra 2 days on May holidays, respectively, on May 4 and 5, 2020 (Monday and Tuesday), which will make it possible to organize another “vacation” lasting 5 days.
